Hype Trains on Twitch are a unique tool to create memorable highlights with your viewers, encouraging interactivity. Using Hype Train alerts, you can elevate these moments with an additional notification in your stream — this tutorial will show you how to do it.
What are Hype Train Alerts?
A Hype Train is a Twitch livestream event that starts when more viewers than usual activate events like Subs, Sub Gifts, or Cheers during a five-minute time span. The Hype Train is visible via a notification above chat, showing its progress. Using Hype Train alerts, you can add a visual/sound notification of the Hype Train to your stream, letting all viewers know that a Hype Train started or leveled up to increase participation.
How to set up Hype Train Alerts?
Make sure to complete the initial Sound Alerts setup steps before starting to create your Hype Train alert. After that, follow this guide:
- Visit the "My Alerts" section of your Dashboard and click on "Other Alerts".
- Click "+Add new Alert Event" and select "Hype Train"

- The right side of your screen shows you the alert settings now — adjust the animation, sound, chat notification, Hype Train level, or Text-to-Speech settings based on your preferences (we'll explain these settings in detail below).
- After completing the customization, test your alert in your streaming software using the "Test in browser source" button.
- Congratulations, your Cheer alert is ready.
Customizing your Hype Train Alert
We offer various customization options for your Hype Train alert on Twitch:
- Hype Train Level Settings: Select the minimum Hype Train level needed to activate the alert (set up multiple alerts with different level requirements to create an alert chain)
- Animation Settings: This setting allows you to edit the visual part of your Hype Train alert — you can upload your own GIFs/videos here or choose to use/create an alert animation with our Animation Store and Editor.
- Sound Settings: This setting lets you edit the sound that your viewers can hear when the Hype Train alert appears. Choose one from the huge Sound Alerts Library or upload your own sound files. Adding multiple sounds will randomize the effect.
- Chat Notification: Use this setting to add a chat notification sent by the Sound Alerts Chatbot whenever the alert is activated. You can customize the text element with variables.
- Text-to-Speech (TTS): Our TTS Announcement lets you add a voice to your alert that will read out the alert details after the alert sound ends. You can choose between different voice styles and edit the text using variables.
