The Sound Alerts Scene Editor is an excellent tool for creating interactive livestream overlays. In this tutorial, we want to showcase the capabilities of the Alert Box widget, which adds additional customization possibilities to your Sound Alerts experience.
What is the Alert Box Overlay?
The Alert Box widget is a customizable instance of your standard Sound Alerts browser source. It will display the alert visuals and sounds your viewers activate based on your preferences. You can use it to have multiple types of alert overlays in your stream. This setup is helpful if you want certain alert types to appear somewhere else or more prominent than others.
Adding the Alert Box Overlay
To add the Alert Box widget to your stream, follow these steps (please note that you can use this widget to replace your standard Sound Alerts browser source or add another instance for customization purposes):
- Visit the Sound Alerts Scene Editor.
- Click "+ Add new Scene" in the top right or select one of your existing scenes.
- Select "Add Widget +" in the top left and click on "+Add" for the "Alert Box".
- Use the settings on the left side to adjust the alert types you want to include and adjust the size/position of the Alert box via drag and drop.
- After that, select "Save" in the top right and enter a name for your scene.
- Now click "Copy Source URL" in the top right. You can add this browser source URL to OBS, Streamlabs Desktop, or other tools by adding it to your source list as a "Browser" or "Web" source and pasting the link.
- Your alerts will now display on your stream once you go live and the scene with the browser source is selected.

Customizing the Alert Box Overlay
The Alert Box widget includes many customization possibilities — these are the most prominent ones:
- Position settings: Select the exact position of the alerts in your stream.
- Opacity settings: Adjust the opacity of your overlay.
- Alert Types: Choose which alert types to exclude/include in your alert box. Create multiple alert box widgets to assign them to individual alert types.
